Wrong! Be very careful who you pick to handle your short sale. Just because an agent says they have experience or has taken some classes, doesn’t mean they are up-to-date on how to handle your short sale. When you hire a Realtor to handle your short sale, you are trusting that person to keep your home from being foreclosed. If your agent isn’t 100% competent, you could be taking huge chances with your family’s financial future.

Many people ask me if they should stop making payments on their loans to expedite the processing of their loan modification and short sales. As a Realtor, it is not ethical for me to tell anyone not to pay on a debt; however, I can tell you from experience, you will not get much attention if you are current on your loan. Your lender is not on your side. They are not your friend. They exist to collect money from you. If you are current on your obligation, they have little incentive to help you because they are getting what they want. Every time you talk with them you hear the statement “we are a debt collecter, we are attempting to collect a debt”. You hear it so much it fades into the background, but that is the essence of any conversation you are having with them. They want your money plain and simple. If you are trying to modify your loan or short sell your home missing some payments may be essential to your success, but you didn’t hear that from me.
